SheevaPlug

About

The Marvell SheevaPlug is a plug-in Linux PC designed to appeal to those interested in an unobtrusive and constantly active computer system, those looking for a unique computer that supports open-source Linux 2.6 kernel distributions, or those who want to save energy by using a device that, according to Marvell, needs only one tenth the power of a normal home server PC system. The SheevaPlug uses a 1.2 GHz Sheeva processor and comes with storage space divided between 512 MB of DDR2 memory and 512 MB of flash storage. The SheevaPlug+ also has an eSata port.

Note: In order to use an RFXcom transceiver (possibly transmitter and reciever too), the Sheevaplug needs to be running at least kernel version 2.6.26 which includes support for the FTDI serial to USB driver. There are a number of ways to acheive this, but one which doesn't involve a complete re-build of the plug can be found here: [[http://www.plugcomputer.org/plugwiki/index.php/Install_Prebuilt_Kernels_From_sheeva.with-linux.com]]

Users

  1. A user reported to have DomotiGa running on a SheevaPlug+ with a SATA harddrive connected to it's eSATA port on which a home and swap partition are installed, this makes it run faster, and of course provides more space. It's running Ubuntu 9.04, with a slightly adapted apt-get command.
  2. with sheevaplug ( SD card - 8GB - Unbuntu 9.04) : you install gnome, samba, vncserver, geany, firefox, nautilus,...... and heyu, gambas2, mysql et domotiga into SD card.
  3. Installed gambas and Domotiga server onto an 8GB SD card, and booted from the SD card following these instructions and then the steps above: [[http://plugcomputer.org/plugwiki/index.php/SD_Card_As_Root_File_System]]
